Relais Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi
Hotel description
The Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi, a building of historical and architectonics importance, was built in 1590. Stil now it is permeate of a charming atmosphere rich in cultural and religious vestiges. Over the centuries, some of the mostpowerful and aristocratic families of the past lived in the palace, that overlooks the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. In the 17th century, the palace belonged to Monsignor Giovanni Giustino Ciampini, who transformed it in a cradle of cultural, literary and scientific activities. The palace was then proper to the Rospigliosi aristocratic family and Camillo, nephew of Pope Clemente IX, made it his favourite residence by gathering in it many famous artists of his period. In 1769, the Marchese Francesco Maria Imperiali Borromeo Lercaro bought it and used it as the see for the Apostolic Misionaries. Although it underwent heavy alterations over the 17th century, many rooms maintained the original style such as the marvellous inner court, the high and decorated ceilings, the marble floors and various decorative and architectonic structures. The chapel on the third floor still shows intact the late Neoclassical decoration of the era of Leone XII, designed by Aristide Leonori. In 1886 Eugenio Pacelli, the future Pope Pio XII, received in it the sacrament of the Holy Communion. The Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi is an aristocratic residence of the late Renaissance, situated in Rome town centre, opposite to the Santa Maria Maggiore, very close to Roma Termini railways station and the Air Terminal. The palace has a great architectural interest, and also has historical and cultural value, as you will perceive from the atmosphere that pervades its rooms. In the hotel we pay attention to every detail, every place has its own fine style. The hotel has 39 rooms, all of them furnished with style and elegance; you will find air conditioning, Satellite TV with plasma screen, minibar and private safe box. Large reception halls, a cloister garde
