Hotel Donna Camilla Savelli
Type(s) : Charm, Business, City Center Hotels
Hotel description
A small architectural jewel in the heart of Rome, the Donna Camilla Savelli, a hotel resort located in a seventeenth century convent, was designed by Francesco Borromini (1599-1667). The hotel owes its name to the founder of the religious institution. It was year 1642 when Camilla Savelli. A Farnese noblewoman, commissioned the convent of Santa Maria dei Sette Dolori and the adjoining homonymous church to Francesco Borromini. The unmistakable style of the artist can be recognized at first glance with his skilful use of flat, concave and convex surfaces. The charming view from the roof garden, the cloister, the refectory gives the guest an unforgettable emotion. At few steps from the hotel Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, Vatican City. Located in the popular area of Trastevere, the hotel is 26km far away from Fiumicino Airport Leonardo Da Vinci and 2km from the centre of Rome, Colosseum, and The Spanish Steps. Following a remarkable renovation which respected the typical architectural rules of the Baroque period and the original project by Borromini, the convent was turned into a four-star hotel. The rooms obtained in the cells once used by the nuns of the order of the Oblate Agostiniane reveal all their ancient beauty and with their decorative ceiling beams and antique furniture they are luxurious but not sumptuous. They represent a synthesis between ancient and modern in which care for the detail and minimalism coexist. Every room is unique; no two rooms are alike in the whole hotel. All 78 rooms of the Donna Camilla Savelli especially at sunset offer scenery of rare beauty. From the terraces the guests have the impression of dominating the Eternal City. If you wish to treat yourself to an even more exclusive experience, try out the suites. The real feather on the hat for the Donna Camilla Savelli is its Imperial Suite, embellished by an antique rose window from which you can fully appreciate the charm of the ancient convent and its adjoining church.
